Your first game

- Take a piece, or get your King out of check.
The line above the die says what to do. Checkmate wins.
How to play
Chess from two bare Kings
- Only the Kings start on the 6x6 board: on your turn, roll the die and place that piece on any empty square where it does not give check, or make a chess move.
Pawn
Pawn
Knight
Bishop
Rook
Queen
- Your first piece goes on your half, and White's first piece is a Pawn on d3.
- In check you must move, not roll; you may never leave your King in check, and checkmate wins.
Pawns are never placed on the first or last row; they step one square and become a Queen on the last row. No castling. A rolled piece with no legal square is lost. 60 turns each without checkmate is a draw.
On the board: dots are squares you can use, rings are captures, a red cross means a placed piece would give check there, and a red dot or ring lets the other side checkmate next move. Undo takes back your last turn; the die gives the same roll again.
